F40 Motorsports is proud to offer this 1973 Porsche 911 RSR 2.8L. The Porsche 911 Carrera RSR was the super star of the 1973 sports car racing season. Boasting over 300 horsepower at 8,000 RPMs from its 2.8-liter flat six, it was another giant-killing, lightweight 911 based Porsche masterpiece. An RSR won the 24-Hours of Daytona, ahead of prototype efforts from Ferrari, Matra & Mirage-Ford. Only 48 of these very special race cars were built by the factory. It won three international and seven national championships in its first season. The Porsche Carrera RSR soon dominated in its own category, the Grand Tourisme class. The races surrounding the GT European Championships turned into a Porsche festival in 1973. These cars wrote sporting history: Anything that was for the taking in 1973 and later still in the GT class was won by RS and RSR. The RSR cars are extremely rare. The RSR was the racing version of the Carrera RS. It could be ordered simply by starting with a Carrera RS and then selecting option number 491. It featured a 2.8 liter engine with about 40% more power then the “regular” RS, fender flares, suspension improvements, brakes from the 917, a roll bar and more. The RSR’s first racing victory was with drivers Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood at the 1973 24 Hrs of Daytona. It would go to dominate GT racing for several years. The car displayed here is an exact RSR replica of the Gelo race team car driven at Le Mans.
